Honda in the Lake is a grass-root project which was initially spawned under the flag of Cardboard Songs by two musicians from north-western Poland – Cyprian and Piotr. Before meeting each other, the two of us have spent a great share of our lives abroad and/or within an international environment, part of it being devoted to creative endeavours.

After 12 years of fragmentary opportunities of putting together a somewhat more concise output, the pandemic has allowed our visions to materialize within the thick Preussian walls of the RecPublica Studio, Lubrza, Poland. As the first project involved a great deal of engineering works, it served as a great chance to cement our mutual understanding for both the creative process and delivery, before we could gather more of our friends to embark on our further journey.

This actually happened roughly 2 years thereafter, as we’ve harnessed the opportunities offered by local rehearsal rooms and culture halls. And this, once again to hone our sound and skills before we could move towards presenting a more diverse output.

Our style is nothing short of cross-genre cherry picking. Still, in whatever we do, we do try to look for a ‘missing element’, INSTEAD OF being directly inspired by other musicians. Quite obviously, some sublime references can be still traced down every now and then. Sometimes, our songs may bring about a faint echo of Polish pop or Eastern Bloc guitar music. This is evident in few of published tunes. We will surely revisit this one on our social media posts referring to the released singles.

Where are we heading and what are we reaching out for? What we are fuelled by can be shortly encapsulated in the ‘search for the missing element’ – whatever it might be. Most probably, we wouldn’t even bother to step out from our hobbit holes dug deep somewhere in the forests of north-western sea coast, if we had not felt the need to grab the chance and start coining our own style somewhere among the first signs of the upcoming social unrest…

The last three years surely haven’t passed in a blink of an eye. We have made an effort to build mutual understanding, and to relentlessly refine our ideas.

For now it seems that these four musicians have formed the core, only then to be joined by the fifth… (for more info – move on to BIO ;)).
